2014 PETER JENKINS

Hello and welcome to the 38th Annual Can-Am Friendship Tournament. It is my pleasure and honour to be asked to write about this year’s veteran honouree, Peter Jenkins.
Pete has been a member of the Cataraqui Soccer Club for about 30 years now and has been Treasurer for 18 of those years. I have heard it said, “Pete's the Treasurer, he just looks after the money”. If they only knew what he has to do to make sure the club keeps its head above water. Fundraising, collecting club dues, finding sponsorship money, paying the league fees, and taking care of this particular weekend. He makes sure all money comes in and all the money goes out again.
We all owe Pete a HUGE thank you for all that he does. Can he still play football? You bet your sweet Rooney he can. Give him half a chance and he'll pull his famous move, turn on a dime, and smack the ball into the back of the old onion bag. Pete has made many a defender look ordinary over the years. In fact, you could compare him to the Vans; Van Nistleroy, Van Persie, and Van Winkle... you remember Rip? Don't ask him to sing, he can’t swim, and I'm not sure if he can ride a bike, but if you ever need a friend or someone to rely on, Pete's your man.
So when you run into Pete this weekend, shake his hand, hug him, and give him a nice warm kiss, and thank him for all he does, and remember he is a little delicate, for his beloved Manchester United have just finished their worst season in living memory. (Bill Stewart - Cataraqui Soccer Club)
